ApeCoin is a token created by Yuga Labs creators of Bored Ape Yacht Club and owners of the larva labs Cryptopunks and Meebits. Apecoin’s launch co-incided with Otherside, Yuga’s metaverse venture, and is intended to be the foundational currency of a Bored Apes’ digital experience. ApeCoin has a fixed total supply of 1 billion APE tokens, and is distirbuted as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum Mainnet.
ApeCoin's primary use is as a governance and utility token within the APE ecosystem. It allows holders to participate in DAO governance votes whilst also offering access to members-only features of the APE metaverse ecosystem such as games, events and other services. If Otherside, Yuga’s metaverse project eventually launches a ‘play-to-earn’ mechanic, APE will likely be the cornerstone of the in-game economy.
